孟兴民,男,1963年9月出生,1984年毕业于西安地质学院地质系,获得理学学士,1998年毕业于英国伦敦大学皇家霍洛威学院地理系,获得理学博士学位。2010年4月被任命为兰州大学西部环境与气候变化研究院院长,现为兰州大学资源环境学院党委书记。

生平经历

1984-1985:西安地质学院地质系-助教,从事教学。1985-1991,在甘肃省科学院地质自然灾害防治研究所 - 研究助理,助理研究员,主要从事滑坡的研究与防治、治理工作。1991-1992,在英国莱斯特大学地理系 – 研究助理,主要从事中国甘肃黄土滑坡与防治及黄土区气候变迁的研究。1992-1997,在英国伦敦大学皇家霍洛威学院地理系 – 研究助理,研究员,主要从事中国黄土滑坡、湿陷、气候变迁,风尘环境,西班牙海岸变化的研究等。1997以后,在英国伦敦大学皇家霍洛威学院地理系 - 地理信息系统主管,主要从事教学和科研。1991年出国至2008年,孟兴民博士一直在英国读书、任教和从事科研工作,2008年被聘为兰州大学萃英特聘教授,博导,作为引进人才回国工作。

研究领域

1、环境地质灾害的防治与研究领域,他的研究成果被国际滑坡地质灾害界给与很高的评价,其代表著作为‘中国西北黄土区滑坡’(英文),被国际滑坡界广为引用,另一代表作是为全球最大百科全书Encyclopedia Britannia撰写的‘滑坡定义’一文,更是代表了他在国际该领域的研究水平和地位。

2、在气候,环境变迁及风沙尘暴领域,他提出了第五地球磁化率生物源理论,该文在地学1区杂志Quaternary Science Reviews发表,引用率达31次,至今仍居该杂志榜首。另在1998年提出了中国西部风沙尘暴的新起源,其正确性被后来许多研究者证实,只因当时发表的期刊影响较小(Journal of Arid Environments),未能得到更广泛的引用。最近,他与英国Derbyshire教授和美国Owen教授合作撰写的Engineering Geology, Geomorphology and Geotechnics专著将进一步提高了他在这一领域的学术影响力。
