邬建国，博士，教授。现任美国亚利桑那州立大学生命科学学院与全球可持续性科学研究所“院长特聘教授”(Dean’s Distinguished Professor) , 北京师范大学人与环境系统可持续科学研究中心创始主任，中美生态、能源及可持续性科学内蒙古自治区研究中心主任。担任国际景观生态学主流刊物《景观生态学》（Landscape Ecology）主编。主要研究领域包括景观生态学、城市生态学、生物多样性与生态系统功能和可持续性科学，是著名的景观生态学和可持续研究科学家。

邬建国于1982年1月毕业于内蒙古大学生态学专业（中国第一个生态学专业），获学士（七七级） 。毕业后留校任教，成为著名草地生态学家李博院士的在职硕士研究生。1985年赴美国加利福尼亚州大学戴维斯校区访学，1987年在美国迈阿密大学获得生态学硕士学位，1991年在美国迈阿密大学获得生态学博士学位。1991－1993年，获美国科学基金委员会博士后基金，在康奈尔大学和普林斯顿大学从事研究。1993－1995年在内布拉斯加大学和内华达大学荒漠研究所做助教授。1995至今，在亚利桑那州立大学受聘为助教授，副教授（1999），正教授（2005），和院长特聘教授（2008）。2003-2010年为该校校长办公室中国项目顾问。是该校全球可持续科学研究所和可持续科学学院的创始教授之一。2005年-2009年，北京师范大学985平台特聘教授。2023年5月8日，邬建国参加第15期风景园林大师讲坛第69期交大设计讲堂。
研究领域包括景观生态学、城市生态学、生物多样性和可持续性 科学。发表论文约300篇，著作14部。其论著和文章在景观生态学、城市生态学和可持续性科学诸领域影响尤为广泛。
除了在美国的研究，邬建国教授从20世纪90年代以来一直和国内学者进行合作研究，并联合培养研究生。研究领域包括内蒙古草原生态和可持续性，东北虎种群动态，千岛湖生境破碎化和生物多样性，中国城市化及其环境影响，以及可持续科学的理论和实践。
邬建国教授发表论文300余篇，著作14余部。自2005年始担任国际景观生态学主流刊 物《景观生态学》（Landscape Ecology）主编，以及Ecological Economics, Landscape and Ecological Engineering,Frontiers of 能量 and Power Engineering in China, Research Letters in Ecology, Journal of 植物界 Ecology, Peer J , Sustainability ，《生态学报》、《植物生态学报》、《生物多样性》、《应用生态学报》 和《生态学杂志》等杂志的编委。曾担任美国生态学会亚洲分会主席（1999－2000），美国景观生态学会学术年会主席（2001），美国生态系统现状评估项目特邀学者（The H. John Heinz III Center, 2000），IGBP研究计GCTE 项目Task 2.1.4研究组负责人（1997-2002），入选美国名人录(Who's Who in America)第54版（2000-）。担任美国景观生态学会常务理事（2001－2004），美国环境保护部生态学项目科学顾问(2004-2005)。
2006年获美国科学促进会（American Association for the Advancement of Science - 美国艺术与科学院）“杰出国际合作奖”。2007年被选为美国科学促进会会士 (AAA Fellow)。2009年美国Leopold Leadership Fellow。2010年获美国景观生态学会“杰出景观生态学家奖”(Distinguished Landscape Ecologist Award)。2011年获国际景观生态学会“杰出科学成就家奖”(Outstanding Scientific Achievements Award)。2012年获内蒙古自治区“国际科学技术合作奖” 。
中国国家杰出青年科学基金B类获得者（2001年），中国科学院“百人计划”国外杰出人才（2003－2005年）；国家973项目首席科学家（2014.1-2018.12）；北京师范大学985平台特聘教授（2005-2009），浙江大学光彪教授（2006－2009），中国科学院植物研究所特聘兼职研究员（2007－2010），内蒙古大学特聘教授（2008－2012），内蒙古农业大学特聘教授（2006－2011）；北京大学、清华大学、中国科学院大学、华东师范大学和宁夏大学客座教授。《现代生态学讲座系列》学术委员会主任。兼任中美生态、能源及可持续性科学内蒙古自治区研究中心主任。
