何兴金，1985年7月毕业于西华师范大学（原南充师范学院）生物系，1991年7月中国科学院成都生物研究所获理学硕士，1999年7月四川大学生命科学学院获理学博士，1999年9月-2001年8月中山大学生命科学学院作博士后研究，2002年4月担任中国科学院成都生物研究所植物学专业兼职博士生导师，2003年7月至今在四川大学生命科学学院工作，任教授、博士生导师。
现任四川大学自然博物馆馆长、四川省植物学会理事（植物分类学专业主任）、四川省生态学会副事理长、SCI期刊Journal of Systematics and Evolution编委、四川省学术和技术带头人后备人选、四川省自然科学博物馆协会副理事长、国际《Flora of Pan-Himalayas》编委、国家重点学科“植物学”学术带头人。
植物分类学、植物系统与分子进化、资源植物保护与利用、自然科技资源平台建设、天然产物开发、生物安全与外来入侵植物等研究。
在伞形科、百合科等科进行了较为深入的分类学研究，尤以对中国独活属、葱属、百合族、柴胡属、大戟属等进行了较全面而深入的细胞分类学、分子系统学和地理学研究；对部分药用植物独活、当归、柴胡的脱氧核糖核酸 barcoding进行了研究；同时对四川省分布的种子植物区系和物种现状及资源植物利用与保扩进行了较为深入的野外考察和分类鉴定、保护和开发研究工作。对资源植物有效成分利用的关键技术方面进行了研究工作。对植物标本数据库与信息系统和共享平台进行了系统的研究，对四川维管植物进行了物种数据库和经济植物的GIS系统建设研究，对多个四川省内的自然保护区进行生物多样性调查，外来入侵物种及其防治研究等。
主持和参加科研项目28项，其中科技部专项3项（项目并列负责人和子课题负责人），国家重点项目4项，在研究项目4项。已在国内外重要学术刊物上发表论文90余篇，其中SCI期刊及SCI检索论文16篇。

2 ． 1997 年—— 1998 年：中国科学院植物研究所系统与进化植物学研究开放实验室资助项目，“国产葱属的分子系统学研究”（项目主持人）。已完成。
3 ． 1998 年—— 2000 年：国家教委博士点基金资助项目，“葱属东亚特有组——粗根组的分子系统学研究”（第一主研）。已完成。
4 ． 2000 年至 2001 年：国家博士后基金资助项目：“千屈菜科及其近缘类群的分子系统学研究”，（项目主持人）。已完成。
5 ． 1999 年—— 2001 年：国家教委博士点基金资助项目：“葱属粗根组的物种生物学研究”（第一主研）。已完成。
