雷富国，男，生于1965年2月，祖籍陕西省渭南市，博士，研究员，博士生导师；中国科学院动物研究所鸟类学研究组组长。
1994年于中国科学院动物研究所获得博士学位。1996年晋升副研究员，2000年晋升研究员，并为科学院动物研究所鸟类学研究组组长。1998,10－2000,2 访问美国华盛顿大学、加州科学院和美国密歇根大学。主持科技部攻关项目、科学院重大项目课题、重点项目，科学院院长基金，国家自然科学基金重点和面上项目，国家教委留学回国人员择优基金等数十项，发表论著160余篇（部），其中在Science, Molecular 生态学, Journal of Virology, 现代生物出版集团 Evolutionary 生物学, PLOS ONE, Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution等25种国际SCI源刊发表论文56篇。
已培养毕业博士、硕士研究生10余人，另外还有5位联合培养硕士研究生；中组部西部计划高级访问学者2位。有两位硕士研究生毕业后直接赴美国美国华盛顿大学、俄克拉荷马大学攻读博士学位；一位博士研究生毕业后赴德国马普学会博士后从事合作研究，回国后留在动物所工作，现为副研究员；其他学生毕业后分赴中国地质大学、陕西师范大学、河北师范大学、上海自然博物馆、青海大学、西南林业大学等大专院校/科研机构或其他政府部门工作。在读期间大部分学生被评为优秀研究生、论文被评为优秀研究生论文，部分学生具有出国访问、合作研究的经历。现有在读研究生10人，其中博士生6人，硕士生4人。国际青年科学家1位，在站博士后4位。
1998－2000 美国密歇根大学大学博士后，导师：Robert B. Payne教授；
1991－1994 中国科学院动物研究所获博士学位，导师：郑作新院士；
1987－1990 陕西师范大学获硕士学位，导师：王廷正教授、方荣盛教授；
1983－1987 陕西师范大学获学士，导师：方荣盛教授。
目前正在开展中原地区部分雀形目鸟类的系统分类与分子系统发育研究；基于鸟类鸣声等行为特征鸟类分类与进化的研究；中国鸟类特有化与多样性保护研究；鸟类种群演化与谱系生物地理格局比较研究；以及禽流感H5N1 野鸟溯源与病源生态研究。
1998年南非举行的第22届国际鸟类学大会上被推选为国际鸟类学委员会委员。目前并为“全球猫头鹰noctua项目计划”中国负责人；世界创新基金会会员；OBC，SSC超级联赛/IUCN，WWGBP及ARRCN等国际组织成员；中原地区濒危物种科学委员会委员；中国鸟类学会副理事长；国际鸟类学委员会委员、第25届国际鸟类学大会学术委员。动物研究所国家动物博物馆管理委员会副主任。汉语词类 Birds，Current 动物学，Global Journal of Molecular Sciences，World Journal of Zoology，The Open 鸟类学 Journal等刊物副主编或编委。
2000年曾获第四届“郑作新鸟类科学青年奖”。
2003年“黑脸琵鹭”获得第9届华表奖。申请者为首席科学家。
2004年“黑脸琵鹭”获得第24届中国电影金鸡奖。申请者为首席科学家。
2005年获得第九届青藏高原青年科技奖。
2006年获得第一届中国动物学会青年科技奖。
Science论文获“科学前沿―中国卓越研究奖 ·2008”。
2009年获得国家杰出青年科学基金资助。
正在主持科技部攻关项目、中国科学院领域前沿项目、国家自然科学基金重大国际合作项目、美国NIH以及加拿大IDRC等数十项。
